in the eyes of the student

in the eyes of the student

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

in the eyes of the student

flirtatious empathy

mutual manifestations

appear in the pupils

that instantaneously instigate

the assignment to express affections

both get "A's" then graduate---

moving on,

to new schools of thought

emotions endeavoring higher degrees

of commitment,

but never forgetting the early teachers

and the accreditation earned

through revisions and rewrites

of relationships

that might find us still failing the class

yet much smarter than we would have been

had we not enrolled in love's enlightenment.

No matter how many times we revise and rewrite, we still sometimes fail the class, but better to have enrolled than never have enrolled at all. :))

This one really resonated with me. Perhaps because my "teachers" show up in my own work from time to time. Even in marriage, those damn revisions are killer, but relationships that remain static die.

thank you for your insightful words, Jan...yes, constant revising.

Fantastic! We learn from each relationship...each lover becomes a teacher of sorts. Perhaps to teach us what NOT to do or say, but still a teacher. We remember every "teacher" sometimes smiling at the foibles along the way. Every liaison is meaningful in life. I enjoyed this one. Lydi**

Ah, this one is a tad more philosophical -- we learn from past teachers and build from that -- yes, this is what the take away should be.

We often think this brain is the only thing that passes all these tests
Turns out out teachers helped with so much more
And the most important was emotional intelligence
Something I believe should be taught in schools .... part of the ciriculum ... because once a child grabs a hold of that ..... they become the most empowered
Some teachers pay attention and some don't ....

Where on Earth do I sign up? I live in shadows and the dust on my diploma is littered with Vietnam.
