Rocking Chair

Rocking Chair

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Rocking Chair

spinster mind
weaving tapestry of sutured heart
operation calcium,
bones still move,
heart hardens

loneliness is a friend
the only one she will need

when the brittleness causes the final breakage
and the pieces pour through her memory
like tiny granules in an hour glass

she sees time is about up
puts on a long sleeve smile
to cover up the bruised skin of sentiment

nothing left in the urn
she is only ashes of feelings

no more
no less.

old age, dying... a sad tale we all face or will face... I love your line: "she puts on a long sleeve smile"... of all the life forms on the planet only we are conscious of our death, sing songs about it, create requiems and operas, write our poetry and even paint it... not many of us get to face it sitting in a "rocking chair".. loved this poem Jacob..

This is really lovely. It's sad how life can end a little earlier than death, and the rocking chair is one way of showing this time of waiting, even in the rhythm of your poem.

This could easily cause one's heart to break in reading it, for mine nearly did. The rocking chair ties it all together, as we infuse our own memories into it. Staggering work, Jacob!

"she sees time is about up
puts on a long sleeve smile" Jacob, I have run out of ways to tell you how much I love the way you express yourself. This line is just fantastic. The feeling of health and youth slipping away till nothing is left is powerful in this poem. Sad, but so beautifully written. Lydi**

How the rocking chair rocks them out of life resigned into a world of loneliness, waiting for life to end.

A bitter woman
is the definition of lack of life
In many cultures a female is thought to be the source of all
love and life

i miss your work Jacob
