out to lunch the day after

out to lunch the day after

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

out to lunch the day after

a sip of spiked noggin

New Years wreck

another year of combative serenity

worse for the wear,

we celebrate something extinct

the eyes are bloodshot

the morning after dismal

no real party

just a couple of disenfranchised schemers

causing us all to go out of business

temporarily,

signs hung on glass windows

the dream of contentment shattered

cracks in the pavement cause us to fall into

sink holes

in comes midnight

no moon to guide

just darkened stars

and TV shadows

we lost our way,

or perhaps it was lost for us

and our feet keep propelling our hearts

in the same lonely direction

with resolutions in dissolution

we can't keep them now,

anyway

and there is no pill strong enough

to assuage the pain.

And I almost forgot HAPPY NEW YEAR JACOB....

Posted 7 Years Ago

what can I say about this poem Jacob, you've penned an "inebriated" day after poem, those times when everything we toasted to got lost in the liquid fantasies of celebration...

but this poem is also a sober understanding of the great dangers we face in this new year... where no pills red or blue will make right... we need a morning after reality that is completely different in every respect... no not resolutions, something much much stronger....

in this new year, Jacob you remain a voice of multisided morality... trey cool!!!!

It is odd, isn't it, how we often ring in the new year hung over and miserable -- this year in particular, looks to be a rough one -- if not on a personal level, then certainly for many on a global level. Well done, as usual, with a poem that can be taken on a literal and figurative level.

ain't it the bare naked truth! i stole my dady's whiskey one night and along with my best freind got very drunk and very sick .. at the end of our romp with our girlfriends (not that kind of romp) it was homeward bound ..we walked ..not old enough to drive .. our grilfriends home safe, my good friend home safe and i still had another couple blocks to go .. but that whiskey hit like the devil .. so i detoured to the golf course nearby .. its a vivid memory even now as i close in on my 68th ;) like a dog i crawled around puking and retching and cursing my ignorance ..i never got "drunk" again ... ever! :) well... maybe once or twice after that ;} you sure do point out the futility of this particular celebration .. especially in lieu of .... time does not exist .. we are the sheep eh!? drunker 'n skunks!

You know something strange....I don't even know why we celebrate...yeah I know it's the ending of one year and beginning of the next, but where did it all come from? I guess my resolution for the year is to be a better student...it's within my grasp...I think?lol thanks teach for the inspiration!

Such a disheartening write. The New Year brings reflection and with it often disappointment. A feeling of "Is that all there is?" once again. We are supposed to be happy on New Year's Eve. We are supposed to celebrate, but the reality is things are not changing the next day. We have to change our behaviors to make our lives change. Have we lost our way? As a nation perhaps we have. Perhaps 2017 will bring us that magic GPS in the sky that will set us on the right path again. Lydi**

Resolutions in dissolution, sounds like most of the ones I make yearly. No waking up with a headache, haven't tasted booze in years. Mostly dreading the gas prices jumping big in Michigan in 2017. [road repair] Valentine
