through the lens of a different era

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

through the lens of a different era

you were my high-rise sweetheart

fifth floor blondness

the breakfast lady with a wink for me

as i stood in line

for scrambled eggs and side of affection

we were a Kodak moment

in time,

and 1971 temporarily developed

into a love story

until we were overexposed

you became a too-pretty snapshot

of yourself

i was looking for a new place to live

a new decade in which

to find my next meal...

and a new server

with a different exposure...

Reads like an old movie: high-rise sweetheart, fifth floor blondness, winking, the only thing missing was "a cup o' joe, with those scrambled eggs. Loved the imagery - saw the Thin Man. Good read.

i say only that which is earned
scrambled eggs and side of affection indeed!
Great metaphor! What once served its purpose can not be revisited....and if it is, well, it is usually a disappointment. 1971....I remember it well. Lydi**

Sometimes we have to move on in life things we come across are definitely snapshots for memory . shrines the eggs are scrambled, literally. To much exposure can be nite a good thing sometimes asas always keep writing fellow writer. This is a good one treks a story

It seems nowadays the level of exposure for each and every single one of us has left so little to the imagination
whether it is a matter of attire or behaviour
Women lost their poise and became too much
And for a traditional man this goes all to waste
as he longs for that elegance in the scene that once was

I enjoyed reading this piece

thank you for your insightful words, Nisreen.

This tells a tale of infatuation and paints it as a sad affair, shakkow and explorative as youth develops to manhood and beyond Jacob. Love the lens theme as if recalling in snapshots of sepia memories.
