after autumn

after autumn

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

after autumn

the leaves are crying,
cheeks turning red,
then pale
breaking from branches of hope
illuminated by a serene sun
then falling into shadows
of burnt green
trampled tenacity

you are winter now
the halcyon sky
weeps white flakes
a chilly memory
as i peer out a frosted, winsome window

there will be no spring this year
the seasons have fallen in abysmal fashion

coats cover surface memories of you
but cold is embedded on the inside

and that chill lasts forever.

Your special style always carry wisdom along real beauty! and here I see, I feel... deep layers of life and death, then love, I feel an old man moaning and seeing his death near, his autumn days are over... I feel a being, a being bare as a winter tree, I feel the earth weeping over him, then I feel the Love, that far ancient Love, still inside, cold and silent, but its reflections are there, around, in each little thing, and I go back to the start to read Your words again, and see... they are all there ... magnificent piece.

Stark, gray imagery conveying warmth's abandonment.
"Ain't no sunshine when she's gone."
Excellent poetry!

At first, I thought this was a nature write...the imagery is spectacular. Then I read it again....reflections as the weather changes and calendar pages turn. The chill is outside and in. Filled with emotion. Good one. Lydi**

Resigned to the cold, hard truth with little expectation of a better season. The memory of a treasured past aching inside you for a bit but ultimately you don't expect a return to former glory. How very appropriate for the winter season ahead as it has that winter vibe working through it.
