A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

endangered poets

at 90 something
the old man's discourse
drooling syllables,
words hardly come to him anymore
the writing of them, the reading plagued
with insensitive timing
age wins another battle,
the fierceness in his eyes
much alive,
at 90 something
he peers through his weary walls
but on the other side sees nothing

in his capsule
he floats away in his mind
his own moon enraptures him
and then earth meets his amazement
with a hard landing

someone hands him a napkin
and he wipes his present off his chin

wishing his past could still hold a pen
to his life.

Waking from a dream, drool pooling on my lap. Wondering what has been missed. Reach for the pen, still writing. Who cares if it might be illegible. Behind the eyes, all the memories are bright, even though they grow fewer.

still is the interest to write is there the spirit is still strong but the body is weak. so it is a sort of reflection that when we are still young in age do the best that we can and make the most out of life for in the future there will be no room for regrets. nice piece of writing jacob
