two in the afternoon

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

two in the afternoon

tea cups and compost
illiterate proximity to superfluous
engagement

conversation aloof
sits upon a roof
with a drunk raven

a little alcohol
mixed with poetic sips
of contradiction

can smell it on their breath
pretentious tongues
will imbibe madness one day

and the simple minds
will only complicate their matters
into unread, discarded verse.

"Tea cups and compost" brings to mind having my ex-wife's muffins with afternoon tea.
Your words are always crisp, fresh and biting; just-made poetic salad with a bourbon dressing.
Powerful post!
