the bookends of life and death

the bookends of life and death

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the bookends of life and death

tambourines rattle

like the conclusion of a diamondback

stories within the swiveling body of paragraphs

slither here and yon

the music of turning pages

and spinning minds

the eyes the windows through which we gaze

in amazement at minds as creative as the venom

of themes that cuts through our inquisitive skin

there is no better death

than the poison of knowledge

we die just a little smarter

and the prologue blurs

as the reading lamp's light wanes

with our dying vision.

Deep and hard thoughts written Jacob.
"there is no better death
than the poison of knowledge
we die just a little smarter
and the prologue blurs
as the reading lamp's light wanes
with our dying vision."
The above lines. A place where most of us end-up. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

So good to see you're still writing amazing pieces of poetry here Jacob!
"there is no better death
than the poison of knowledge"
So true, I would die for an actual intelligent conversation these days! Maybe why I have popped back up here to mingle with some brilliant poets, such as yourself :)
I'll be by for more...

Time it was...and what a time it was...a time of innocence...a time of confidences. The best of S & G.

I believe the quote is...a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. Cutting the head off the snake doesn't prevent you from getting bit and it still carries venom. Rattles, like tambourines, sometimes mark time in that absurd dance with the truth.

Took me on a strange journey, j. More of a Trip actually. ;))

I guess the old adage, 'I wish I knew then what I know now' springs to mind as we watch the reflective glass of the sand timer seeping ever downwards with no way to stop it and no option to turn it upside down!

Some great lines here Jacob. 'there is no better death than the poison of knowledge". We all have our own bookends, what is stored between them varies immensely. Some are thirsty for knowledge, others couldn' t care less. Thought provoking and deep.
