at the stroke of 12---a tribute to the Dylans

at the stroke of 12---a tribute to the Dylans

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

at the stroke of 12---a tribute to the Dylans

rival poets in a smack  down

trading punch lines

of poems

miming the timing of rhyming

tags

against the face of invention, intervention

defying convention

patenting complacent, adjacent

writings from the fightings

the rounds of sounds

of onomatopoeia

as the bell rings, sings, brings

to battle

Dylan vs. Dylan

one a first, one a last

a Thomas and a Bob

battling in an arena

on "Positively 4th Street"

they've got a lotta nerve

and a lotta talent to serve

the masses

who pray to waylay

some of that talent

bottle it for posterity

with poetic fingers of dexterity

as the bell rings, sings, brings

to battle

the entrants with their quills

inciting thrills

from vacant sills

of windows

looking out

over "Positively 4th Street"

neither of them

Going "gently into that good night"----

I am a tad biased and was never a fan of Bob even though I enjoyed some of his offerings. Dylan on the other hand I am a fan of. You capture some of their beings in this very clever and enjoyable tribute Jacob.

thank you, John,

Fabulous work and clever with it too. An admirer of them both. Both gifted with immense talent, both with a destructive streak running through their fibre. A battle of the giants using words. Poetry v lyrics or maybe poetry v poetry depending on your personal opinion. Top notch work Jacob.
