the first day of the last

the first day of the last

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the first day of the last

it's all too real,

November chides

the wind chills,

each gust

seeks to deride

alternative lives

inclement sorrow

abides

within hearts of bare trees

the reflection in halcyon blue

insipid days so stealthily reside

clutching one another's warmth unseen

felt in diminishing dream.

Yes we have my friend and you are welcome Jacob.
I picture a moody cast poster of game of thrones, with the tag line of “winter is coming” and looking like they’re all expecting another ten month freeze.
And one thing winter excels in, is the hollowness of sound in snow, which somehow adds to the loneliness of man, bird and tree.

Has the feeling of lost love. Even the weather seems to mock at such times. The last line mentions a diminishing dream, which is an apt metaphor for something precious that is no more.

All seasons of life has it's merits and demerits, Spring gives hop to the plants, falls give sorrow to the trees, but it always cycle which is positive and true beauty of seasons and hope the seasons should cycle in our lives too.

Reads like the first day or month of Winter wiping the canvas clean of all life for this period. Or could just a storm in a tea cup!

Life....a diminishing dream...the first day was just yesterday and before we know it, the end seems so much in sight. Where did it all go? The wind blew it all away...before we could gather ourselves.

Yes the beginning of Nov has been the last of of Our dictator, but no it’s not...and he will continue to deride us, demonize us, we must adhere to the warmth of each other, the comfort of halcyon days...our hearts are bare like the trees waiting for warmth to come and dress them green. You have crafted this very well Jacob.

Very much like the line: "...within hearts of bare trees."
Poem conveys icy futility.
Leaves me yearning to feel the sun on my face.
Obviously, work with impact.

The grey and stark days of winter are on the doorstep. Nothing thrives in winter, it is the season of decay and death. Our emotions can reflect winter too. We have to learn to accept graciously the harshness of winter in the knowledge that without winter there will be no spring. We have to bide winter days and look forward to the blue sky and rebirth that spring gifts. And if we are lucky, winter can also gift us too. There can by great beauty in winter. Wrap up warm Jacob, before you know it you'll be through it. Nicely expressive and touches the reader on an emotional level.
