Aquarium Underbelly (Good guys don't always wear white hats)

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Aquarium Underbelly (Good guys don't always wear white hats)

we are living submarine lives
hiding deep below a sea of lies

silently running
from the truth of the cunning

who blind us with false pretense
as our periscope hearts believe through the lens

of pithy disbelief that stings like men of war
the eco system destroying our ideals all the more

apathy is the sea horse gambling
I am the poet rambling

in the undercurrent, riding his back
saddled with a waning hope dressed in black.

So many are willingly accepting what passes for news on social media as gospel ... so welcome to the twitterverse where everyone can have an opinion and few dispute the statements, or, if they do they get shouted done by the idiots who do no thinking on their own.
Once upon a time there were newsmen who you could trust ... like Uncle Walter ... who reported facts, not conjecture.

A good write my friend ... take care ... enjoy the holidays.

So true in this covid situation. We have heard so many stories from WHO, and then spreading another. Currently we are running through a state of disbelief... Although we want to believe the vaccine heart and soul but who knows what is the actual picture.

Yes, everything got so political instead of medical...who knows, WHO knows.

There's an underbelly running every country and sometimes a scandal breaks the skin of all things we are not suppose to know. Excellent write from the master's pen.

We lie to each other and we lie to ourselves, when our beliefs are contradicted by reality, which do we change, the belief or the reality. I remember when i was a child and i did something naughty,my mother said, tell me the truth and you won't be punished,so i told her the truth and she punished me, she lied,
Work that one out. Phill.

I like it, I like it, I like it sir Jacob. I like how you compare lies to steady submarines that rear their ugly heads every once in a while. And then you use the undercurrent of news media as an example. Wow. No wonder you are a great writer...

Really strong opening. Reels the reader right in. So much fake news about it is difficult to know what to believe anymore.

Your title including the bit about good guys don't always wear white hats reminded me of something my Dad said to me many years ago. He told me to never trust a man who was wearing white shoes :) I have never forgotten that and I have no idea why he said it.

I like that about the white shoes...
does this poem lose its zip after the opening?
I suppose if you hear enough lies, you eventually think it's the truth.
At least, that's what social media wants you to think.
In a strange way, big brother really is watching you, just google a product you like and you'll find out, fifty companies will be competing for your money. Fake news, is it, or is it not.

I think Christmas is still true, though I think it's about to be cancelled here.
This might be my favorite. It definitely is. The first two lines are pointed and to the core. Great work Jacob.
