the three-way bulb

the three-way bulb

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the three-way bulb

the lamp is lonely

its light prodigal

in illumination

of a dark soul's

intervention

fears

tears

jeers at

self-worth

a switch

a beckoning

the blackness to embrace

turn off the reckoning

truth feels like touching the bulb

my fingers burn

as my heart

turn off the reckoning

I want to pull the shades

let the bulb cool

relent

reset

reinvent

self-worth

be something

when the prodigal light

returns

and artificial exposure

no longer

burns.

thank you for your kind review, Julie,
j.
It is often the case that the person doesn't see how bright their light shines within them Jacob, but your words always illuminate and have me scrambling for the sunglasses.
Just my luck that they were all out of 100 watt bulbs when it came to my turn. If I think too hard I can smell the wick burning 😊
You are a lighthouse in comparison.
