I recall an old joke, the gist of which was the difference between love and herpes is that herpes lasts forever. I get the impression in this offering that a life has been "turned inside out" because a relationship has gone sour. The last words reflect the loneliness that now prevails.

Instead Of a star shining upon us, it has turned to its inner self; the variable of this love is self love, the ability to love one’s self, a necessity before one can love another; this is the variable your love; this is your expression of it.
