flagship brilliant

flagship brilliant

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

flagship brilliant

the rain sounds especially harsh tonight

the drops are pelting

not simply falling

window's wicked framing

a storm's slide lit by a bolt of lightning

pictures of eerie landscape

branches fallen in disarray

gutters overflowing in rivers of debris

the little boat I am floating in the puddle

is capsizing

the captain calls for the twigs to pray

rampant waves of flooded language

poems evicted from clouds

the pages may never recover

some wish they had not survived the deluge

some just don't remember if it rained.

I kept reading and read again.... And a thought comes to mind, did all those writes without flagship survive? Or are they given away, forgotten and stolen.. You have such deep understanding in things my friend,.

Love this lines:
some wish they had not survived the deluge, some just don't remember if it rained.

The last six lines give us the poem's meaning. Sounds like a frustrated take on one's writing, with the deluge as metaphor. The last couplet relates opposing, but negative, appraisals. Sometimes we set our sights too high, and the result is disappointment.

The poems didn't deserve it. They need to be treated gently and patiently. Given time to rain and not evicted so harshly from the clouds. The pages must feel so shaken. I hope they gather any residual words and get themselves new poems written again. You're such an amazing poet, my friend.
