mechanical destiny

mechanical destiny

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

mechanical destiny

too many dead poems

rise from tombs

of flawless writing

not a punctuation mark

mis-interred

not a thought breathing life

a closed coffin coffered

as the syllables decompose

and still sound perfect

no human fingers touch the pen

cats are declawed

poets dehumanized

both defenseless

against the elements of style

semantics is the modernization of society

we come to terms with ourselves

being themselves

being stoically acclimated

to telling pretentious stories

without a clue to what matters

the heart of it all

the one that used to beat with love

and true feeling

before we unplugged it

and left creativity a burned out circuit

in a closet of dusty relics.

" ... and left creativity a burned out circuit.". Wow. What a way to close this one. Strong words. I think most of what I write, when I look back at it, irks me ... so I share very little. ~Jim

Dear J , that last stanza, is so cliff edge. A heart of stone, and creativity a burned out circuit. Not a recipe for contentment. The unplugging of the heart a joint effort. So beautifully penned my friend.

The title is excellent. Makes me think that life support is needed.

First I gotta be dead!
in a world filled with so many following the same path, true creativity becomes a rare commodity.
