A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Choice

this time last week,

it was the week before

and before that

I was not yet conceived

not even an idea

a rumor

I wrote words on her soul

from the womb

to the tomb

the connection faded

the delivery a hoax

Mama cried

she read one of my poems

and hesitated.

Gosh what a poem. This is so delicate yet punchy. The soft tones descriptions and pausing format give such an air of heaviness. Amazing job :)

nadia,
I really appreciate the contradictions pointed out in this poem.
j.
Hesitation can leave us feeling unsure of how the person feels but the tears said something even louder than words or hesitation ever could.

How hurtful it can be if we think we are not living up to expectations of our parents.

We aren’t clones of them. We have to find our own compass in life.

A very poignant piece j.

I am happy to have helped some of my students moving forward. Their success makes me smile.
Woah! The title and end line scream from the page Jacob and so very apt for the here and now with people taking risks they shouldn't need to take.
Never an easy subject to write on, but this is just bang on the bullseye.
Superbly captured.
