Love is our Jacket

Love is our Jacket

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Love is our Jacket

acorns drop

squirrels scatter to gather

the maple leaves congregate

the fiendish, snickering child

goes ker-leaf

then sets fire to the colors

autumn freezes into winter

bare branched soldiers

stand at attention

cloaked only in naked bark

inside the trees, are thoughts of another spring

their humanness is a kindness

they want to shield us from the cold

but can only watch as we huddle, cuddle

and bundle up

inside the humans, are thoughts of another spring

as we smile at the child

and wink to the squirrels

pick up an acorn

and throw it as far as heaven

at least,

inside we do.

Beautiful imagery
"then sets fire to the colors
autumn freezes into winter
bare branched soldiers
stand at attention
cloaked only in naked bark"
Plants and humans the same with only the thought of another spring. Great work Jacob.

Thank you for your kind review, Soren,

The weaving of nature through romance....the personification....the imagery. Jacob, this is so lovely. The last stanza, though, makes me think it was all a dream. Lydi**

Jacob,
I wonder if all poets identify with trees, understand their thoughts are ponderous, that ours are not. And when I hear of acorns I am always reminded of a thing that happened a million years ago. I was walking by some woods when i saw a squirrel dive into a carpet of leaves after an acorn that fell right next to him. Ha, I thought, and picked up some pebbles to toss into the canopy so they would fall nearby. He fell for it every time... then one came down and conked him right on the head! He flew into the air and flopped onto his back, legs sticking straight up. Oh, man I was sure I'd killed him! Gingerly, i walked over and when I was about six feet away, he came to, jumped up and hopped around like WHAT TH...? WHO TH...? So all I could do was look up and walk away whistling like "who me?"

A paen to the beauty of nature. Visually described and developed within the views of a cosy warmth. Inside has a lot of meanings here.

Very clever write Jacob...Especially with the subliminal mission impossible theme tune playing in all your readers heads! ☺
It's their little hands that gets me every time! ☺

Oh yes, that theme...I hear it.

Maybe the jacket protects us and love is the warmth
that insulates us.

Love certainly is capable of insulating us.

I have a silver birch at the side of my house whose branches overlook my bedroom window. For 40 years it has been my sentinel. On guard, through thick and thin, through all seasons. If anything should happen to that tree. I would be felled. Your poem reminded me of the affinity I have with trees. I love them in the same way I love friends and relatives. Your imagery here j, is outstanding.

There are other meanings here too. There are layers in tree canopies.

I would rather wear a warming love jacket, donate to others than a straight jacket which should be preserved for some world leaders, cult leaders, war mongers.
An excellent poem and message sir Jacob.
Now, leather ones can be expensive?!

the straight jacket fits snugly on some...and they show it off proudly.

Hehehe! So true and well articulated. You are welcome sir Jacob.
There's precious meanings to your words, thoughtful secrets expressed for those who rarely stop to think of what and how much is hidden. Fragile thought: 'autumn freezes into winter-bare branched soldiers- stand at attention- cloaked only in naked bark'
