another state

another state

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

another state

we cannot die in our dreams

not even of joy

love passes over like a cloud

the subconscious prays for rain

it's sort of a baptism

like an infant shutting its eyes

to avert the splash

we wake, saved from obscurity

terminated scapes

smiling simply from survival

those close calls make us restless

blanket the fears

that emerge in R.E.M

goodnights get harder each time.

Goodnights get harder each time.
I never thought I could hear something so loud in the silence.

I have never found goodnights "easy", but love using insomnia as a muse when it is good for nothing else. Nice write. ~Jim

Thank you for your words, Jim,

Those who sleep with a clear conscience sleep good. Those who sleep with a fogged conscience have nightmares. You have stated those states stately. Grand poem dear poet.

Thank you for your insight, andrew,

Each new day can be a blessing as we age. When we sleep at night, how sure can we be that we will wake at dawn? These thoughts have filtered through my mind recently. Makes me appreciate all those I love and hold dear. Obscurity? Yes, I ponder on that too.

Yes, we never know when we might fall asleep for good...
thank you, Chris,

I agree
Good nights can become sudden unexpected unexplainable goodbyes at the twinkling of an eye
Especially these days
I like this
Happy Easter to you Jacob and trust you are well
