The Perfect Lover

The Perfect Lover

A Poem by Erica Ross

Sometimes in life, your good deeds are never enough
Someone in your life always has to make things tough
No matter what you try to do
Things are somehow turned around on you

That's why I say, live for yourself
All that you have is you, in sickness and health
We spend years trying to make others happy
Trying to make others love us

But we've forgotten about the core individual
We've given up on us
But I'm not telling you to be selfish
Or to be unkind to others

But make yourself happy first
Cause no one but yourself will be the perfect lover.

Takin care of business. (yourself) Capitol idea. Great poem

This is a good write about taking care of one's self. It is true that others can cause us misery and that we should rely on self for all manners of pleasure, if we do not wish to get hurt. Not rational, but definitely idealistic.

I like this. I'm not much for optimism in poetry but this is cool :)

Thank You :) I'm glad that this could be your exception !!
I like the idea, but watch your measure! Also some less conventional rhyme choices would help. But good concept, "The Perfect Lover". Build on it! (:
