This Place Was A Shelter

This Place Was A Shelter

A Poem by Alyss Erulisse
"

Inspired by and named for Ólafur Arnalds's song. The tragic backstory of the Spirit of the Millennium Ring. Fanfiction of the anime YuGiOh.

"

Once an innocent,

He was loved.

Then came sacrifice,

An evil for a greater good.

With everything ripped away,

The pain and anger never fade

And darkness grows inside his heart.

His shelter now haunted,

A bereaved child sways

His cheek marred red with misfortune.

Slowly, he puts one foot before the other

Deep through the desert,

The sun glaring down on burnt skin,

The dust blinding tired eyes.

Body starved,

Lips parched,

He wanders the kingdom,

A mortal pitied by no one,

Taking to survive,

Challenging the laws

Of a glorified killer.

Outcast and condemned,

One lifetime of aching

Fosters millennia of torment.

A vengeful spirit,

He cannot rest.

Imprisoned in the legacy of his village,

He will never forgive

And can never forget.
