which cat had my tongue

which cat had my tongue

A Poem by Evyn Rubin
"

this happened again

"

which cat had my tongue a metaphoric cat

the Achilles heel of my ptsd temporarily

froze my tongue for me

not a cat but eensy teensy people internal to me

said Let's give her some of this chemical

to help her freeze in camouflage beside a tree

although that decision wasn't helpful to me

they were intending to help me?

freeze in camouflage beside a tree?

while someone with an adverse agenda

was taking swipes at me verbally

there was an incident on my recent substitute teacher job

in which my silence was a failure that crossed the line

of my own standards, an irresponsible silence

and its breaking so inept as to make matters worse

and what of my semi-silence, contorted,

oblique, parametered, overwhelmed

small during the recent fifty day war

what does a silence express

how does a silence function

which cat got the tongue and what for

which silences to be preserved and which to be broken

which words to hold back and which to be spoken
