Embrace Me You

Embrace Me You

A Poem by faith h.
"

a certain longing

"

I am watching the odometer

running the miles away from

the last embrace of you.

It clicks another fifty and

then it turns over another

thousand minus you.

And sure memory travels

back to a certain moment,

a past remaking the future.

That rearview mirror reflection

sees you walking into the next

page of a poem yet written.

Not to dwell in the memory of

you or when the miles made

me mad crazy to embrace you.

Geez...this made me sad, made me remember my own leaving behind of someone long ago...especially the part of them being in the poems yet to be written, those poems I wrote and then discarded years ago when my heart healed. You made me think of all that with this one girl...whew!

I like this piece! I love the image of being in a car, trying to get away from a memory and a person. This is a great poem!

I have often wanted to define clearly for myself what it is that I love about your poetry. And I have attempted to do so when commenting. I just have never quite pinpointed the reason, gotten it down right ...now I have it and it is precisely what i love about Barbary's poetry too. You are authentic and you have a distinctly different and authentic voice. It never wavers. I do often come away from your words wondering who it is that you left behind. I like this, as always. Somehow you are always leaving someone in the dust and I am always wondering who. Hey, come on over for a beer...David and I are out in the back. The gate is open.
