I Watched

I Watched

A Poem by Alex

I watched two people fall in love today.
They met by chance
Fate, happenstance
(Serendipity" if you will)

It was all in an instant.
Sparks sprung from her eyes,
A burning blinding light.
And his eyes followed her.
The curve of her smile
(Her laugh, oh, a chorus on high)
The flow of her hair.
My eyes
Watching his eyes
Watching her hands
How they greedily touched everything
Except his.
But how he hoped they would someday
Someway
Find a way into his.

I watched two people fall in love today.
And as I stood from my small table
In the tiny cafe by the roadside
(The taste of coffee and longing on my lips)
I took my leave.
And as I walked away
(Smiling)
I hoped that one day
Chance,
Fate, happenstance
(Serendipity" if you will)
Would catch me
Off-guard, heart open.
And my he all my own would watch
The curve of my smile
The flow of my hair
And my hands that touched everything
But his.
Yet, how he would hope
(Secretly; Always secretly)
That mine would find his
Someday, someway
And fit"
Perfectly.

Is this a poem about two people falling in love, or staying in love?

I have a feeling that what the poem's narrator wants is more of the second -- it is what is implied by "fit / perfectly".

Hope my thoughts help in some way.
