RON!

RON!

A Poem by felsy

So off my feet to take this seat,

A moment now to ponder,

About this man who said “you can”, Whilst others said I’d blunder.

This man I know whom watched me grow,

With eyes of handsome blue,

Whose fiery stare whilst in his chair told of what to do.

A quiet man, No need for plan, Advice to keep own council,

A grounded man,  A base on which his family grew,

Always there to show his care, His lifes purpose set in you.

Now as a lad, I’d watch grandad, return from fiery furnace

A face of joy, that as a boy, id acknowledge as a sense of purpose.

Whilst on a task, There’d be a mask of meaningful expression,

Then back to chair, without a care, but focus on next session.

There we’d sit and for a bit, admire the tv in the corner.

A place he’d go when life was slow, no purpose in this sunder.

A simple way to fill his day free from desired task,

When once again this man of men would rush to wear the mask,

So now the man who said you can,

Has gone to meet his maker,

Hes left behind far more than we can see,

Some simple words, Some nouns and verbs,

That said what I should be,

I watched his life, With considered eyes,

Ive used his lessons for my own,

So grandad you should know, Your love will grow and you’ll never be alone.

So now to close, My words are done,

Farewell! Just left to say,

To the man who said you can,

My Grandad! My friend! Ron!

I recently lost my grandfather and was asked to write a poem for the funeral. This is simply a view of my relationship and understanding of granddad whom was a simple yet profound man.
