What Is And What Could Have Been

What Is And What Could Have Been

A Poem by Esther
"

9/26/16 -- Vent poem

"

Dark thoughts fight to resurface
As I lie in bed pondering
What is and what could have been.

The breeze of my ceiling fan is soothing
Against my face--
Something constant, something calm
Within a sea of confusion and internal struggles
I so often drown in.

I made an attempt to focus intently
On the sounds of the ceiling fan spinning in endless circles
And the slight movements of my art being blown by the breeze against the wall.

Does it matter at all?
Is it worth dwelling on?
Will I ever learn to move on,
Or will I continuously fight to escape
What is and what could have been?

"What is and what could have been", so many good questions in the final stanza that we ask ourselves all to often. I find poetry my means to dwell and then to also move on. Sometimes I repeat this process over and over until I find my peace with it.
Great Write, thanks for sharing!
