MAN-EATING EYES

MAN-EATING EYES

She's a man eater ...

MAN-EATING EYES

It was a breath-easy day,
slightly overcast.
I sat on the patio and
ordered a double espresso.
Across from me sat a girl -
charm and allure
ever-so-present,
exuding from her like smoke...
yeah, she was HOT.
She looked my way,
modest, unassuming,
and that's when it started.

Her eyes arrested me
sending chills down
my spine, like the
butt of a gun pushing
and steering at my back.
They told a story of
screams hung in the night,
thousands of souls,
much like my own,
lost in the void
of her stillborn heart.

She continued to sip
her latte, her eyes locked
in on me ready to strike.
They consumed me like
the moon eclipses the sun;
the spears from within
etching her name
on my lips...it wasn't a name,
but a word...MAN EATER.

It WAS a nice day,
slightly overcast...

This is a very naturally flowing poem. I like how a seemingly normal day can quickly turn into something else. A tigeress on the prowl, ready to pounce any moment. Like some of the other reviewers, "What happens next?!"
It's nice to have you back Ivan. You never disappoint.

I love the intensity and anticipation you built in this piece, but wanted more!
...good thing you were able to resist this gorgeous 'man eater' (...or did you?) Next time, order a double machiatto instead and give the femme fatale some of her own medicine!

I love those moments of silent recognition, when one looks into another's eyes; and both are transfixed, transported into some otherworldly realm of think-thought-thinking. It's an all too familiar magical feeling that sends shivers along the spine.

Cute poem. For some reason, I felt like you stopped short. I felt as if there was more we needed to know about her story and her life. Fabulous work.

Ha! i like the narrative here..intriguing and to the point. You took it to a high abstract note and then with the last line you let the reader know all of a sudden that but hey this is how reality is..also i like the flow in your words here..easy and fluid.
