Nightmares.

Nightmares.

A Poem by Aliice In Wonderland
"

A villanelle about how my dreams mesh with reality.

"

Rest, I may, yet nightmares control my sleep.

How I long to live in a world of dream,

But please save me from the monsters that leap.

I wish for death where scars like to run deep,

Play with the faeries though evil they seem.

Rest, I may, yet nightmares control my sleep.

In the dark trees where I wither and weep,

The shadows cackle and grow as they scream,

But please save me from the monsters that leap.

They toy with your head and your mind let steep

In visions of leviathans that teem.

Rest, I may, yet nightmares control my sleep.

I may try to follow the ones that peep.

Smiles fade while they stutter by the stream,

But please save me from the monsters that leap.

My heart I had not but my mind won’t keep

All those brilliant eyes that betray and gleam.

Rest, I may, yet nightmares control my sleep,

But please save me from the monsters that leap.
