Final Mark

Final Mark

A Poem by Alana Michele

the sun has pales to a full moon's glow

mountains rise up to shatter the sky

streams of mist clash

swirling around my legs

numb...broken...desperate

I climb

stone glides across marred skin

scraping...tearing

the final scene draws closer

surrounding

screaming in silence

listening to each beat

winds seep from four corners of the earth

the stars still remain

behind the ink stained sheet

trembling

I collide with unforgiving earth

blood ribboning around

tracing my fingerprints

soldiers stride onward

the barren land crys out

metal spikes pierce blacken clay

footsteps like heartbeats

steady

the crimson flows now slow

beating recedes

gazing up in one final breathe

I notice

there is blood on the moon

and I know

it is the final mark
