Butterflies Never Die

Days rush by so slowly, I wonder where you are 

your dancing heart now quietly screams to me 

you exited this world in hushed desperation 

to all with a kaleidoscopic blind eye's view 

 

My soul aches for your broken innocence 

my mind wanders aimlessly to that day 

sweetness of breath stifled too soon 

 suffocating vile secrets to be restrained 

 

All that remains are  still photographs  

the lovely memories of life still standing 

a note to read between the lines 

silence for an inner demon snuffed 

 

A butterfly perched on my arm the day you left 

it fluttered by without a care or uneasiness 

simply made it's presence of beauty known in awe 

it had no home just the wondrous freedom of flight

 

 

I wonder, are you in that place where butterflies never die?

Beautiful, you've captured the beauty of loss and longing and used the metaphor as beautiful as a butterfly. Butterflies have a beautiful and sad almost bittersweet cycle of life and this poem captures the essence of bittersweet so well. Great job! 100/100

WoW! I have been off the Cafe for a while, busy with random, tedious responsibilities, and I come back and the first poem I read is this. Amazing! Makes me wonder why I ever took a break from flooding myself with poetry as beautiful as this. You express the confusing, bewildered feelings accompanying the loss of a friend so well. It was so beautiful, so nostalgic. And the last line had me nearly in tears. I liked how you set it apart from the rest of the poem, as i is definitely good enough to stand on its own.
