~Last Breath

~Last Breath

A Poem by Frieda P
"

For Lee with Love...

"
Last thought,
         last breath,
   last moments
drowning my mind
          in a tsunami of grief
    what thoughts of desperation
         devoured your soul
was your heart broken,
 your mind irreparable
your spirit severed
     from your force of being?

You took your life,
in an instant...
other's went along for the ride
suicide kills more than one,
 in your release,
there is no peace
 for those left behind
you wrote your last chapter
        scribbled note tells naught
your book of life never finished
you will always remain
a brilliant butterfly
   fluttering freely
in my heart of heart's memory

Wow. This definitely hit hard. My best friend took this life at the age of 23 and I was the one to discover this. Your words feel like they came straight my brain to this page.

Suicide surely kills more than one. It creates a coldness in those around you that really never leaves.

Deep, real piece. Thanks for this.

Reminds me of a great modern poet who took her own life, too---Plath. Many have mourned over the loss and there are those who haven't gotten over it hitherto. Indeed, suicide kills more than one, in a way.

Thank you John.
I'm never sure what to say to comfort you in the wake of such writings, or if there's anything that can be said to that effect...I can only suggest that your willingness to turn personal loss into public art may inspire others in the same boat to not be afraid to express themselves and not spend their lives bottling it inside...that's the worst thing one can do under the circumstances...your way of honouring her is the best way to do so.

i dont think i need to express how much this was nicely penned and such issues because that is something normal in all your poems. i just want to talk about the topic of this poem. losing someone dear to us is severe pain, but i think, at least for me, we never lose any, since we will be there one day..all what happens is, they got dressed and went down some time earlier than us..our turn is coming..
i hope you can get over that feeling. i like the feeling of sincerity and loyality expressed here to someone who will never see it..

i really understand how this subject affects you , so i am loathe to dwell on the obvious, as so many others may...and i must simply say...well written ...the grieving never ends, frieda, as long as the love remains, so does the sorrow. sending hugs across the miles...
