~The Raven & the Butterfly

~The Raven & the Butterfly

A Story by Frieda P

"Why so gloomy?" inquired the raven.
~"I'm tired of being a just another pretty face,  no one comprehends what I've gone through."

"Does it really matter if they understand your history?"

~"I don't always feel like being colorful, light & airy, that's what they expect of me."

"Things could be worse my sweet, you could have been stuck with a bad rap like mine.   I've been labeled  dark all my life, they don't even recognize my beauty."

~"I see your spirit bright & clear", exclaimed the tiny flutterby.

"Some can't see the forest for the trees, my dainty darling.  Your strength is apparent to me, you're a warrior butterfly, here you are among the darkness and your soul still shines through",  spoke the raven quite convincingly.

~"I feel lighter already, I guess all I needed was a little kindness and understanding."

Done with the sweet talk, the raven replied wryly with a wicked look upon his face. "I hope you understand that it is in my nature to have you for dinner."

~In her best sardonic voice the butterfly whispered mockingly, "that's why I always bring along my friend the snake"....

Moral:  A raven can't change its color but a butterfly warrior is stronger on the battlefield with her friends at her side, and will always win the fight.

Not sure what you'd call this, something different from my pen, I guess it's more of a Frieda Fable, enjoy, let me know how you feel about it....thanks for reading.

I like the part about brining the snake! How true we are often mislabled or misjudged. It's not the things that people see that define us, but the characterisitcs within our being. And of course the friends we surround ourselves with. Great "Frieda Fable" ;)

A very good story. I like the conversation and the surprise ending. Beauty is good. People need to be heard and respected for who they are and came from. Thank you for sharing the excellent story.

Thanks for the review lola :-)
Frieda, i really enjoy this write, how you ventured into this darkly, foreboding yet enchantingly poignant fable. the in-depth emotional imagery you've portrayed here is spellbinding. your words, arrangement of them...brilliant! i want to hear you read this out loud.

I tend to empathize with both the characters, the butterfly everyone wants to capture, living for 8 days, creatures only seeing it's outer beauty, and knowing it's the Raven's prey...yet the raven is known as the creature that can't help but become destined to the foretelling of death and i agree with Rock n Roll Cowboy: a watcher in the shadows.

The poor Raven, desiring it's own selfish needs seems to be unaware of the Butterfly's wisdom.

I also see this as one feeling such disillusionment with others feelings motives perhaps towards you, maybe not having your best interest at heart you realizing it's time to move on or harden your heart. ha my then Professor would tell me "Barrie, you're personalizing this aren't you?" LOL

I have no f.king idea if i make any sense...too much sugar consumed in such a short time, wasn't the greatest idea i ever had. btw: i agree with Soulareatease...this has to be one of my favs. from you...love to see/read more of this type of genre from you!

I don't usually dance in this genre Marie, I'm much more comfy in poetry, thanks.
I have always thought the raven has gotten a bad rap too... a sign of death, for me the raven represents a watcher over the down and out until they find some light... but you make a great point with this piece... if you continue to tell someone they are no good eventually they will believe it.

Kind of reminds me of the fables I loved as a child. The moral is completely true. The right friends give you strength. And you know how much I love butterflies. ;-) xo
