Death's Backdoor

Death's Backdoor

A Poem by Frieda P
"

Dedicated to my dear friend RIP x

"
We hide away in safe little alcoves
hoping that no one will see
the shame imprinted in blood
   soul screaming out in affliction
heartbeats skip in shades of braille
washed away by tides of grief
tucked in lace hankies of apprehension
   inklings of grey conceptions leak
spun dry in the machine made by man
markings can't be erased in a cycle
for a legacy of lies, darkened by secrets
scars run deeper than earthy crust
dark moons passed over in the light
    truth obstructed at death's backdoor

I love this one. It is so tragically beautiful. The pain is seering. That place where we hide on the brink of madness to cover our shame from those we love...to call it deaths back door...very creative, and very true. It's almost as if death beckons to us in those moments of wekness. Those moments of human vulnerability. And this song that you've chosen is so haunting! I absoutely love it. It's going into my stock pile of writing music. Truly gave me goose bumps. Well done.

I instantly regret my absence from this site when I stumble upon your humble writes Frieda. How I've missed your tenderness. "Heartbeats skip in shades of Braille" .. HOW DID YOU THINK OF THIS?! SERIOUSLY?! Your friend would be honoured. There are no words to perfectly convey the drawing of a hearts muses, but if there were any, these they would be. Loss is sometimes overwhelming, but through your beautiful talents you dwell gracefully on loving memory. This is sublime. Amazing work my friend

:)
a poem full of drama and emotion that packs a punch. I especially like shades of braille, a viral expression that you carry with you after reading...

Thank you kindly for your visit and review Leslie.
One of my favorite songs, i'm so surprised you know of this band. You always amaze me and surprise me.
I'm so sorry for your friend, this poem for me was filled with pain and that emotion of hiding my whole life in a land full of chauvinistic men and cynical women, not really living at all. Maybe deaths door can set me free.. free to be me

Wow, didn't think I could still surprise you, well done, me....thanks dear Kee.
When one must enter death through the back door, the front door is left ajar as winds questioning the whys and hows of it blow ever strong enough to keep those who are survivors to feel the sting of it, to stop and wipe the tears away with the questions that shall remain unanswered.
It seems unfair, but it often happens as this.
A touching tribute my friend!!

Very dark and foreboding... sent a chill down my spine, I mean that in a very good way.

Thank you Debbie.
Tragically beautiful indeed. I'm fascinated by many of the images that you used in this one, because they played so well with the almost silent pain that was infused in each line. Love has become something to fear for many of us...we love in secret and the wake of our greif is often all that can be seen. I love the way that you humanized the honesty and emotion in this one. Well done, but deeply sad.

Thanks Friday, always appreciate your insightful thoughts on my page.
That last line prods me with thoughts of 'Death's Backdoor' as somewhere where the slaves enter into the afterlife. Slaves to their addictions and afflictions, unlike those who are honest with themselves and have nothing to hide that meet death smiling through the gates. Excellent imagery to convey bereavement and all the emotions that it creates in us.
