~Light Works

~Light Works

A Poem by Frieda P

I'm kindred to the dark side
where nightmares are life
it's the light shining in that frightens me
like feeling the car move when it's really still
not sure if it's me that's crazy or the world outside
i can fall backwards with my eyes closed
it's that forward roll that's a challenge
used to dancing two steps forward
three steps back and still able to tango on
when the shadows overcast the broken pieces
and the road less traveled no longer beckons
I walk amongst the darkly safe passages
clinging to the hope that one day,
I won't be blindsided to what is
illuminating afore me in disguise
i might surrender to the burnished side

Darkness breeds the fear, light brings it into focus. There seems to be no safe haven to run to, even three steps back provides no relief to these painful memories. Somewhere, we can only hpe waits the gray area, where peace might be found. Amazingly dark, even in all the brightness Frieda. Your talents are unending.

A true tale of isolation and the solace we find in it. Your writing has and always resonates with my spirit. A pleasure as usual.

There is no Good or Evil, only Light and Dark. Sometimes, light can be just as (if not more) frightening than darkness....Great Write!

How I can understand as if we were one in thought, through we are unbeknownst to one another! I have such a connection to your words. Thank you for penning...

we all succumb to the shadows of life ...at times we go to the dark side...then we write ourselves out of it...and enjoy the light for however long it lasts.

You have made my day for reasons only you know, my friend :) But I'll stick to the poem here...is this reflective of the angsty stuff you said you were holding on to? ;P I'm not sure if you've noticed this yourself, but journeys are one of your quintessential themes...most everything you write revolves around a journey...to that point, I consider dancing a journey as well (I promise I won't say journey anymore haha) I said there was angst in this piece, but the ending hints at salvation or the hope of it, which made me content for whatever reason...I guess that's where the music comes in ;)

I understand this so well, frieda. Why in the hell do we keep to the shadows where the scary s**t lurks?? Crazy, that's why. We must be bat s**t crazy. Angi~

Between the dark side and the bright and cheery side is a place where most of us reside. We can not escape memories and sometimes there is a comfort in holding onto them....no matter how dark they might be. We are all multi-faceted beings and accepting the dark and the light sides within us brings inner peace. I liked the images in this one, Frieda. Lydi**

When I was young. Dark side held more temptation than the good road. I like the desire and the purpose for the poem. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts John, I don't know if it's temptation, it just is...
Surrender, you
quiet I stepped away
In the word I ccan't spell
"Library"
Then you,
You were quiet on the screen ,
on the western font,
Just as I asked for paper , (a nickle a sheet )
You,
A noise that grew like bagpipes over the hill and down the glen
Turned all our heads !

Sounds like a plan...............
I like the idea of aligning this poem on the opposite side, it adds to the meaning. this really hits home for me. before I really received a testimony of Christ I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop as if I was so used to the bad situations it made me afraid of the light as you state here. what do you think about the word amid in place amongst which as an old modern English words seem out of context?
