~soup & salad of the mind

~soup & salad of the mind

A Poem by Frieda P

What  saves a poet's sanity
soup and salad of the mind
comforted with scattered warmth
& lines drawn in the sand
are there ever any perfect words
I draw blood from my pen
overflowing vessels of circumspect denial
pondering an accepting benevolent heart
discriminating souls wave a vigilant flag,
poetry a force of conjecture and calculated risk
speaks who and what we are without completion
I lie naked on these shores of cadenc'd bliss
a'waiting a fate worse than creativity's abolition
confirmation comes served in slices of firmament's breath~
exhaling again to capture the essence of vaulted contention

“For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.”  T. S. Eliot

“Words can be like X-rays if you use them properly --
they’ll go through anything. You read and you’re pierced.”  Aldous Huxley

I sat pondering for many years what I should do with my words and my writing. My rhymes were for me only. The emotion that spilled from my pen exposed me for who I really was and for many years I wore a mask that said otherwise. I'm happy now I have exposed myself. Are there ever any perfect words we write? No....but isnt that's what great about it. The unknown.

To take a dip inside your mind must be a world of wonder and colour's unknown. Wonderful abstract meanings with truth ringing out in the words. Excellent again.

Thanks for your kind words magenta, jazzed you enjoyed.
Your words come from not merely the heart but the mind, yours sharp as a blade, able to lay you open until we can swim in your heart.flow meanings. Words are a knock at the door, a warmth or warning, a love or loathing - depends on the writers' skill and the reader's capability, added of course to the reason and interpretation. As ever you create with amazing skill and serious intention, dear Friend.

We throw our words out on the page and then what? They are judged by those who often have little knowledge of how to judge them. We can be criticized hawk-eyed vigilantes and they can sling arrows at us....arrows that always hit their mark. Perhaps there are no perfect words, but if that be the case, why do we strive to find them? Frieda, perhaps we open ourselves up too much and that is why we "lie naked on these shores of cadenc'd bliss". An anthem for us all to begin the new year, sweet Frieda. Lydi**

Thanks so much Ahena...
The soup and salad of the mind...we prepare them and serve with those ingredients which can be perfect or imperfect reflections of our souls.

Great metaphors!

Grazi mille Dhaye!
Frieda, I love this poem. We either color inside the lines or outside the lines...that is our decision to make. This piece is as if you have invited us inside, for a fleeting but beautiful look at the emotions, the thoughts and the feelings that drive you. There are times when we hold our breath awaiting a certain situation to go away, and then the exhale afterward seems to be worth every moment. Beautiful my friend.

You have a way of describing things that is simply unique. This has such descriptive metaphors that the impact of your concept is delivered in a few lines. And yes we writers are a fickle bunch!

Yes, we bear our souls and spin the wheel whenever we lay out our words to others. Its a scary feeling and one that can leave us paranoid. There are no perfect words as far as I'm concerned but there are great ideas and even lines that affect others. Personally, I'm scared to death to post again. I will when I'm ready.
