ancient history's rhyme

ancient history's rhyme

A Poem by Frieda P

I dog eared every page
in your old testament of love
  print appearing fainter,
    undone within parchment's hue
script kept running on inky blues
to the last page's frayed conclusion
closed the chapter in the final hour
  documented and indexed
     under literary fiction,
lust composed of dusty silences,
pain of heart's fire, reduced to ashes
    encased within the cobwebs
of ancient history's rhyme &
        crumbling, untimely bookshelves

Oh man this one kicks me in the gut... Hard. The emotions and wording of this poem Mama was just out of this world and painful. I agree with KL - some fantastic poetry do come from the toughest, unpleasant places and going back can hurt us but purging is good.

Flip flops & all that jazz!!xoxo

again .. you get better and better in my opinion .. you told a lifetime in this poem and i love the ancient parchment metaphor .. i can sense the age, feel the delicate pages and smell the musk of it .. a human tragedy sometimes that we keep such libraries and torture ourselves over and over .. speaking of libraries .. this is going in mine .. wonderful job Freida .. love it!

Ha, I love it. :))
The metaphors you have used are brilliant, and make me wonder just how similar old relationships and old books are. It is amazing how you pulled it off with remarkable simplicity.
My favourite lines would be:
"to the last page's frayed conclusion
closed the chapter in the final hour
  documented and indexed
under literary fiction,"

Frieda, often the only good thing about "dog earred" old books is the reminder of life lessons learned and in the heat provided on those cold winter night when the furnace goes out and cold memoriess go up in the smoke they were when real, even though at the time they were not seen.

Your poem is painful to read cause I had such a library (not the same as your write) one that held the dog earred pages of male stupidity and arrogance. The heat and smoke of that fire lingers in my mind so that I do better. I know this is different than why you wrote this poem Frieda. But your poem also reminds me and others what is at stake when such treachery is done.

Sorry if I took your poem too far afield, it made me introspective. That is a great thing in your poems Frieda... xxoo

I think we all have a library as such no matter what the reason or rhyme, some lessons are harder to.. read more

I love the above statement. Had the feel of ancient writers and thoughts. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

I wish I didn't want to put this in my favourites. Sometimes the best writes come from the most unpleasant places. This is just so perfect, in its simplicity and its pain.
