Hummingbirds

Hummingbirds

A Poem by Scott

I woke to morning mist again
White and curled atop the grain
Love when I left for the day, we kissed
Though this too has burned off
With the rising of the sun.

I traveled forward in this grace
Past the crumpled bird that lies  in state
On Riverside Drive, lonely motorists drive
Filing past in silence,  they review
The passages of their own forms too.

I returned to find you standing
There amid the bleeding heart
Lingering for the hummingbirds
Saint Francis in your housework coat
Waiting for stigmata.

I just love the title! I also like how the words flow together! Good job!

Really a very good poem. The narrative is appealing in its simplicity. It progresses from one image to another with ease and the details peppered here and there make up together a vivid picture without disrupting the flow. I especially like the last stanza. The reference to Saint Francis is a very nice touch.
