![]() River IronyA Poem by Kenneth The Poethopping rocks like pounding scotch underneath the summer sun,
gauging jumps in broken pumps trying not to break the one,
the ankle, the leg and even the skull
and the cell phone receives no signal that close to the river shore,
skull split open,
brain matter leeching out,
death appears imminent due to a pedal misstep,
more likely, the ankle becomes twisted and climbing along the rocks become an exercise within a briar patch,
the choice becomes climbing up hill or climbing into the river,
either way, the dilemma is river irony,
so close and yet so far,
life defined in basic terms,
basic as lye is basic,
fourteen places behind the radix point,
beyond insignificant on the universal scale,
think before you act yet act without thinking,
the decision is on the agent alone,
life is a gamble and river irony may be the outcome,
so it goes,
