Crux

Crux

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

you stare southward
and the further south of
the cancerous tropic is,
one will see that constant

the anti-Polaris but not so
much the anti-Polaris

Acrux
Mimosa
Gacrux
Epsilon Cru
Delta Cru

line from top to bottom,
from alpha star to gamma star

then a line across from
Alpha Centauri to Beta Centauri,
just about collinear with
the delta star and the epsilon star

vision created,
a savior for the navigators,
a personal Jesus for the southbound sailor

the anti-Polaris grouping marking
the celestial pole that is not a star

but human ingenuity says it's there
and it may be the last sight one sees
when the mongrel southern surf
chops the ships into splinters

but as Stephen sings
with Graham and David
backing him up,
you'll understand why
you come Coconut Milk way

and that's the crux of the story,
or so the wise ones say
