Only Temporary

Only Temporary

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

why do they come?
for the same reason
why he comes, or
so he thinks
they must come for the money,
but they aren't on the verge,
aren't facing imminent default
and who would have thought
familial provision would have
involved dealing with
hostile takeover?
but that's how fucked up
reality is
dragon ladies with pea-sized
brains have more power than
men who refuse to play
political games

of course, the ones who are
professional are considered
unprofessional by the
so-called expert professionals,
the ones who exploit their
expertise on the unwilling
that is their job and they
always have a job to do
and that job is to
f**k with the
trench fighters
they are just dragons
in lizard costumes,
ugly creatures that
hide the fugly creature
beneath
and he wonders,
maybe a bookend
existence in this
concrete honeycomb
may be the way to be
while the suicide fire
rages someplace else
and yet bookends can't
provide for their families
while thick-skinned folks
can and do any which
way and how
this life is only temporary
