Life As Is

Life As Is

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

you battle hard,
treading the line
between me time
and they time,
creating art
and living life,
making meaning
and scratching out
an existence

you change three sets of diapers
and try to review works by others

you buy nine cans of Monster
and try to prevent the leaking can
from leaving a piss stain on
your work shorts

you try and put yourself
before others while trying
to put others before yourself

you have little regard for others
when you have much regard for others

you are a creature ruled by
the dichotomy, the divide that
splits you into the negative
beast that you self-propagate

you obsess over the darkness,
you get consumed by the darkness

and it's only variable in
a massive system of equations,
a system called life as is

other variables include:
self-image, goal-setting,
goal accomplishment,
setting wrongs right,
parenting woes,
making friends,
keeping friends,
marriage woes,
career woes,
addiction woes

this adult system of equations
can't be solved by brute force
alone but we can't solve it by
any other means

wits cans only get one so far
and the same goes with luck
and a combination of brute
force, wits and luck

the row operations one undertakes
to crack this systems are really
infinite in number to the puny
human mind

and with the many regrets
a life can have and how
many horror stories we
hear about routinely,
the system, if cracked
or uncracked, most likely
has no solution

no answer, no point,
just a s**t ton of
math homework that
means nothing when you
finish it and score poorly
on the test later

and, in the end,
the system is just a
degenerate subcase
that can never be solved

a subcase to the ideal
adult system of equations,
one with a solution,
one with an answer that
makes so much sense
and that is easy to reach
with the simplest number
of row operations possible

but the battles we fight daily
make that ideal impossible
to have because we are
degenerate cases after all,
chaff for the fire if one
is biblically-inclined

the math may never work out
and the positive ones may
choose to keep working at it
as an anti-homage to both
Camus and Sartre,
and some may give it up
completely or try it
again later

we are free agents after all,
so let the battle continue
until we all permanently
cast off our coils

A masterful philosophical write, Kenneth. One I can highly relate with.

Thank you.
This is a very smart observational piece. The thing I used to remember about math was wondering why on earth a person who is not going in to be a doctor, engineer, or scientist, needs to know algebra. I have yet to use it in my daily life ... Still, we do our thing until we shuffle off. Nice write.

Thank you.
You wonderfully lay it all out as is. The beginning of the battles(inner and outer), the cause of the positive and negative, the generation and degeneration of the possible and impossible. There is a wake up call her to heed and change...Excellent...:)..............
