Moffit Road

Moffit Road

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

at the place where
three different roads
meet between
four distinct points

you choose between
the home fires,
the path of least resistance,
the by-way that consumes
the most fuel or
the mean between
all the extremes

whatever that definition is,
could be or should be

and you go back to past experience,
past problems that led you to form
a working conjecture to begin with

usually the route of compromise
has been the most competent choice

and since every path has its own
unique brand of scenery, seeing it
again cannot be that horrible

so you don't go further south
along the road that follows
Lewis and Clark and you don't
go back north because you've
come this far already

no, you go east to go south
to go east again to go back north,
you go with the oddly median path

you go down Moffit Road
and you don't look back

you look forward to
the curves, valleys
and dinosaurs to come
