Direction Field

Direction Field

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

the spreading rain looks
like a lesson on
direction fields in a
differential equations class

spreading line segments
in generally angled
downward directions

almost infinitely many of them

falling, falling, falling
like the dollar's buying power
like the price of oil
like one-quarter of
the fundamental forces
that define the universe

and so far the falling rain
feels like the time since
universal expansion commenced

when will the sun go red giant?

that's when the direction field
outside will end
