A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

I mimicked Crane today
and I failed, like the
student who fails math
class routinely

I can't write short prose
unless I structure it
mercilessly

lay down the syllable count
and go from there

of course if I had
a massive stick up
parts unknown,
I would follow the
sonnet structure
with Shakespeare
or Petrarch
as my guide

but this prose is my prose,
and suck as it may,
it's still my contribution
to the collected body of work
called human expression

and all the greats of the past
might have to agree with that
