Colfax

Colfax

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

in a line against the building,
sitting down are representatives
of all races

the addicts staying in the rain
late on a Saturday afternoon

one of the many facets along an
urban stretch of US 40

a mix of yuppie bars, head shops,
liquor outlets, bodegas and
roach motels

from the young to the old,
from the homeless to the wealthy,
from the hopheads to the crackheads,
this stretch of pavement is where all
the beings congregate disparately

even the politicians assemble here
as the rain falls on the homeless vet
pushing his shopping cart of belongings
into the bus stop shelter

the just and unjust alike exist here
on Colfax Avenue
