Do This

Do This

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

draw a specified number of edges
and pen in the segments across the
common room at multiples less than
half the number of sides to make
gem cuts, the kind that shimmer
on the betrothed's left finger

do this because you can count
remainders like you can skip
count across infinite sets

do this because you seek
patterns that connect
history, culture, number
and shape

do this because the
deeper understanding
is seeking you as much
as you seek it

do this because
you are the stuff
of stars and
geometric principles

reflection, rotation, translation

reflexive into symmetric
and back again

the regularity of it all
cut like a stunning gem

the simplicity of it all
gleaming and eye-appealing

just doing this work is worth the while
