Earthbound

Earthbound

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

we live in a land demarcated
by lines, lines so straight
that curves that don't have
corrective power are rare

and from the top concrete step
you see that notion played out
with yellow dashes to and just
beyond the flashing red light

you wish you were
facing dead west at sundown

and now comes the controversy
because the homophobes might
see this piece as advocating
all their baseless fears

but that's not the case

it's not about that kind
of demarcation

it's about seeing the poetry
in the surroundings and
seeing where the flaws make
the land all the more interesting

because spheres with grid lines
are boring, an exercise in
grade school graphics application

add some land,
add some water,
add some humans,
add some plants,
animals and members
of the other kingdoms
and you have this game
called earthbound

there are plenty of lines
dividing everything and
that's cumbersome enough,
so drop the division as
we are divided enough

it's time to look north and
enjoy the scenery along the way
