To The Quick

To The Quick

A Poem by Kenneth The Poet

stale to the quick,
something subtracted
of zest, how can
anybody call that food?

it's like the commodity
cheese the government
gives out on the first of
the month.

or something like it.

food is real wheat,
is real cheese,
the kind that reminds
you of the midwest
farm stereotype.

that's why a box
of the real stuff
is being made
tonight.

yessir. that's why we redneck folk, out here, in west nowhere grow it and kill it ourselves. only way to know what you're getting is to do the getting. great poem. the world needs more voices like yours.

I think we are all losing sight of the real . . . my husband thought everything should come from a box and at some point I gave up the homemade stuff
