The Gift Has Been Wrapped

worshipping the coffee pot late at night,

the lesser deities of Douwe and Egberts

fueling a unitarian state of mind,

seeking truth in web-based poetry

all on an early Wednesday morn,

 

craving the chalice lighting coming soon,

to give his thoughts and hope

to the extended family members

in that new place he calls home,

 

dream deep the wishing well

called the flowering mind,

impressed by German singers

deep down the historical line,

 

honing his craft all while

searching for truth,

devoid of slumber

under an hourly number,

his new age still partially youth

 

slurping the sludge

and reading the prose,

belief in the unity

only sprouts,

simply grows,

because the gift,

his gift, has been wrapped

and awaits its opening day

Context:

My birthday was yesterday, my wife had surgery to keep our pregnancy viable on that day, so the gift, my gift, her gift, our gift, has been wrapped and awaits its delivery.
