I Fear Eternity

I Fear Eternity

A Poem by Gilad Levanon
"

Tuesday afternoon ramblings.

"
They say that we fear death
They say that we dread the day
When we take our last breath

They say we can't handle the end
They say we all resist the time
When into the ground we shall descend

We invent machines and we create technology
We develop systems and we manipulate reality
We alter our environment to create a sanctuary
Because we cannot face the truth of temporality

We invent tales of an afterlife
We weave stories of gods and demons which never appear
And we offer mythical explanations for our strife
An opiate for the masses to deal with our ultimate fear

But to me this is a reversal of truth
For I do not fear oblivion
I see through the illusion
Of time and old age and youth

I fear eternity for it is never-ending
A concept that suggests we never rest
An idea that is to me anxiety lending
It is the reality that I once did detest

But the paradox is that what we fear
Is what excites us most
And now eternity is a reality that I hold dear
For it means I have an infinity
To master the art of joy and levity

I'm interested in finding the ultimate question. I know the answer's 42 but "What is six times seven?" doesn't satisfy me. more..
