Highschool

Highschool

A Poem by Nicki

Broken haloes scatter the halls

Devilish inscriptions etched on walls

Lockers marked by scriptures of sin

Like scarlet letters branded on skin

Phantoms of innocence to gravesites bound

Rattle their chains with a strident, metallic sound

Ivory tainted by disgraceful desire

Lost and abused in the sickening mire

With painted lips in mirrors aglow

 Vanity makes grand a show

Like the red sea the crowd parts

For Imposing bodies with cowardly hearts

Whispers travel faster than screams

In this place of developing dreams

Runaway rumors rip lovers apart

The taste of highschool is sour and tart

People vying

People crying

People lying

Characters wilting, fading, and

dying...

Your poem reveals the depth of your insight into budding human interactions.
Very nice creation, dear poet.

It is a shame such behavior is not put away when high school is completed, but it grows and solidifies inside the characters of most adults. Such is life, yes?
